ONE OF THE GREATEST THINGS ABOUT MY JOB (OTHER THEN WORLD TRAVEL!), IS COMING ACROSS NEW TALENT. I HAPPENED TO RUN INTO CHRIS WHEN I WENT INTO DYNAMIC TATTOO TO DO THE INTERVIEW WITH TREVOR, SARA, EVAN & OWEN THAT WAS FEATURED IN OUR LAST ISSUE. CHRIS RUSHMER WAS GETTING THE BACK OF HIS NECK DONE BY TREVOR. IF IT WASN’T FOR SUCH GREAT TIMING, I WOULD STILL BE IN THE DARK ABOUT THIS TALENTED ARTIST WHO IS PLYING HIS TRADE AND SINGING IN AN UP AND COMING HARDCORE BAND (SEE ROCK INK), IN OUR NATION’S CAPITOL, CANBERRA.
Why and how did you get into tattooing? As a child I was always a bit of an art geek, but that was a natural thing for me that was passed down from my father who is an amazing artist. He always encouraged and inspired me with my art. I wanted to do something that I loved for a living, but I didn’t want to sit around waiting for a painting to sell. Tattooing was a way that I discovered you could make a decent living off of your art work. Although I sometimes find myself wishing there wasn’t the allure of the money, so that only the real passionate artist would be in the industry and we wouldn’t see as many of these “cant draw a stick man to save themselves” tattooists. I think this industry is poisoned with too many people that are in it for a quick buck. I apprenticed in Adelaide in early 2002 and moved to Canberra late 2003, looking for a more laidback working environment to concentrate on my custom work.
